Kermani Shaykhism is a living tradition within Shaykhism. Also written Ebrahimi Shaykhism, Kermāni branch.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: Hajj Muhammad-Karim Khan Kermani (d. 1288/1871). No founding year is given below, because the sources read do not agree on one and a date has not been chosen for them. Founded on the death of Sayyid Kazim Rashti in 1259/1844 by Muhammad-Karim Khan Kermani, eldest son of Ebrahim Khan Zahir-al-Dawla, a nephew of Fath-ʿAli Shah and himself a disciple of Rashti; he studied at the Ebrahimiya madrasa built by his father, went to Karbala at sixteen or seventeen, and returned to Kerman as Rashti's representative. He established a major library at the Ebrahimiya in 1250/1834. Encyclopaedia Iranica: 'On the whole, it is usually the Kermāni branch that is meant when Shaykhism is discussed or mentioned.' No founding year is asserted; 1259/1844 is Rashti's death, not a founding act.
