Mencian current (Mengzi) is a living tradition within Confucianism. Also written Mengzi school, 孟子.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: Mencius (Mengzi). No founding year is given below, because the sources read do not agree on one and a date has not been chosen for them. No founding date. Mencius is placed by the Stanford Encyclopedia among the classical Confucians following Confucius; the doctrine at issue is that human nature is good and that ethical cultivation resembles encouraging the innate tendency of a sprout to grow to maturity. Elevated to canonical status in the Song, when the Mengzi entered the Four Books.
