Origin
Founding date given as 1895. Formed at Atlanta, Georgia, in 1895 by the merger of the Foreign Mission Baptist Convention (1880), the American National Baptist Convention (1886) and the Baptist National Educational Convention (1893), out of independent Black Baptist congregations established after the Civil War.
