Particular Baptists is a living tradition within Baptist tradition. Also written Calvinistic Baptists, Reformed Baptists.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: John Spilsbury. Founding date given as 1638. Stemmed from a non-Separatist church established in 1616 by Henry Jacob at Southwark; in 1638 a number of its members withdrew under John Spilsbury to form the first Particular Baptist church. Particular Baptists held that Christ died to atone for the sins of the elect.
