Presbyterianism is a living tradition within Reformed (Calvinist) tradition. Also written Presbyterian churches.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: John Knox (Scotland). No founding year is given below, because the sources read do not agree on one and a date has not been chosen for them. Reformed churches governed by presbyteries. Doctrinal standards are the Westminster Confession and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms, produced by the Westminster Assembly (1643-52), which the English Long Parliament called to reform the Church of England; the Confession was completed in 1646. No single founding year is given by the sources consulted.
