Origin
Founders named in the sources: Mordecai M. Kaplan (1881–1983), Ira Eisenstein. Founding date given as 1968. Mordecai Kaplan (1881–1983) coined 'Reconstructionism' in Judaism as a Civilization (1934) and founded the Society for the Advancement of Judaism in 1922 as a laboratory for liturgical experiment. The Reconstructionist Rabbinical College was established in Philadelphia in 1968 under Ira Eisenstein's leadership, which the source identifies as the point at which Reconstructionism became an independent denomination; 1968 is recorded on that basis, with the intellectual origin at 1922–1934.
