Santi Asoke

Santi Asoke is recorded within Theravāda. Whether it constitutes a distinct tradition is itself disputed in the sources. Also written Asoke group.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: Mongkol 'Rak' Rakpong, later Phra Bodhiraksa (Phothirak). Founding date given as 1975. Heikkilä-Horn: Bodhiraksa was ordained in 1970 and established the Asoke group in the early 1970s; the group formally declared independence on 6 August 1975 and was required to resign from the Council of Elders in 1975. Search-result material (not independently verified here) additionally reports an order of 10 June 1989 from the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand commanding Phothirak to leave the order within seven days, and his refusal.
