Sōka Gakkai is a living tradition within Nichiren school. Also written Sōka Gakkai International (SGI), Value Creation Society.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: Tsunesaburō Makiguchi (first president). Founding date given as 1930. The World Religions and Spirituality Project entry gives 1930 as the year of establishment with Makiguchi as first president; practice centres on recitation of Nam-myōhō-renge-kyō. Stone lists Sōka Gakkai among the Nichiren lay organisations, alongside Reiyūkai and Risshō Kōseikai.
