Southern Baptist Convention is a living tradition within Baptist tradition. Also written SBC.
Origin
Founding date given as 1845. Organised at Augusta, Georgia, in 1845 by Southern Baptists who dissented from the antislavery stance of Northern Baptists. The northern body organised separately as the Northern Baptist Convention in 1907, renamed American Baptist Convention in 1950 and American Baptist Churches U.S.A. after 1972.
