Taiping dao (Way of Great Peace)

Taiping dao (Way of Great Peace) is recorded within Taoism and is no longer extant. Also written 太平道, Yellow Turbans, Way of the Taiping.
Origin
Founder named in the sources: Zhang Jue (Zhang Jiao), d. 184 CE. Founding date given as c. 184 CE. Bokenkamp dates the Yellow Turbans / Way of Great Peace to 'circa 184 CE' in the eastern Han empire, under Zhang Jue; the 'circa' is the source's, not mine. Zhang Jue appears as a leader in the 160s and 170s and died in 184. Its adherents rose in the Yellow Turban Rebellion of 184, suppressed the same year. Its principal text was the Taiping jing (Scripture of Great Peace).
