قَالَ لِي إِنَّ الْحَكَمَ بْنَ عُتَيْبَةَ مِمَّنْ قَالَ اللَّهُ وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَقُولُ آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَ بِالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَ ما هُمْ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ فَلْيُشَرِّقِ الْحَكَمُ وَ لْيُغَرِّبْ أَمَا وَ اللَّهِ لَا يُصِيبُ الْعِلْمَ إِلَّا مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ جَبْرَئِيلُ .

محمد بن یحیی، احمد بن محمد سے، وہ حسین بن سعید سے، وہ نضر بن سوید سے، وہ یحییٰ الحلبی سے، وہ معلیٰ بن عثمان سے، وہ ابو بصیر سے، جنہوں نے کہا: انہوں نے علیہ السلام مجھ سے فرمایا: “بے شک، حکم بن عتیبہ ان لوگوں میں سے ہے جن کے بارے میں اللہ نے فرمایا:” “اور لوگوں میں سے کچھ ایسے ہیں جو کہتے ہیں: ہم اللہ پر اور آخرت کے دن پر ایمان لائے، حالانکہ وہ مومن نہیں ہیں۔” پس حکم مشرق کی طرف جائے اور مغرب کی طرف جائے۔ بے شک، اللہ کی قسم، وہ علم تک ہرگز نہیں پہنچے گا مگر ایک ایسے گھرانے سے جس پر جبرائیل نازل ہوا تھا۔
Translation
Muhammad Bin yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Husayn Bin Saeed, from Al Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Yahya Al Halby, from Moalla Biin Usman, (It has been narrated) from Abu Baseer who said, ‘He<sup>asws</sup> said to me: ‘Al-Hakam Bin Oteyba is from the ones for whom Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Said <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:2#h8"><a href="/books/quran:2#h8">[2:8]</a></a> And from the people there are ones who are saying: We believe in Allah and the Last Day; and they are not at all Believers</span>. So let Al-Hakam go east and let him go west. But, by Allah<sup>azwj</sup>, he will not attain the knowledge except from the People<sup>asws</sup> of the Household. Jibraeel<sup>as</sup> descends unto them<sup>asws</sup>’.
