علی بن ابراہیم، ان کے والد سے، ابن ابی عمیر سے، حماد بن عثمان سے، معلیٰ بن خنیس سے، جنہوں نے کہا: میں نے ایک دن ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے کہا: “میں آپ پر قربان ہو جاؤں۔ میں نے فلاں کے گھرانے کا ذکر کیا اور ان نعمتوں کا بھی جن میں وہ ہیں، اور میں نے کہا: اگر یہ آپ کے لیے ہوتا تو ہم آپ کے ساتھ رہتے۔” تو انہوں نے علیہ السلام فرمایا: “اے معلیٰ، یہ بہت دور کی بات ہے۔ اللہ کی قسم، اگر ایسا ہوتا تو بس رات کی تدبیر، دن کا سفر، کھردرا لباس پہننا، اور سادہ غذا کھانا ہی ہوتا۔” پس وہ ہم سے دور کر دیا گیا۔ کیا تم نے کبھی کوئی ایسا ظلم دیکھا ہے جسے اللہ تعالیٰ نے نعمت بنا دیا ہو، سوائے اس کے؟”

Translation

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hammad Bin Usman, from Al Moalla Bin Khunays who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah^asws one day, ‘May I be sacrificed to you^asws! I remembered the family of so and so and what they are in from the Bounties, so I said, ‘If only that was for you^asws, we would have lived with you^asws (prosperously)’. So he^asws said: ‘Far be it, O Moalla! But, by Allah^azwj, had it been that, it would not have been except for hard labour (of protection) at night and strenuous work by the day, and wearing the coarse, and eating the tasteless. So that was Impeded from us^asws. Have you ever seen a looted property Allah, the Most High, has turned into a blessing except this one (easy life for you while unjust Abbassids are in rule)?’
