سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى ائْتُونِي بِكِتابٍ مِنْ قَبْلِ هذا أَوْ أَثارَةٍ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صادِقِينَ قَالَ عَنَى بِالْكِتَابِ التَّوْرَاةَ وَ الْإِنْجِيلَ وَ أَثَارَةٍ مِنْ عِلْمٍ فَإِنَّمَا عَنَى بِذَلِكَ عِلْمَ أَوْصِيَاءِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ( عليهم السلام ) .

محمد بن یحیی، ابن محبوب سے، جمیل بن صالح سے، ابو عبیدہ سے، انہوں نے کہا: میں نے ابو جعفر (عليه السلام) سے پوچھا اس کے، بلند و برتر، اس فرمان کے بارے میں: “میرے پاس اس سے پہلے کوئی کتاب لاؤ، یا علم کا کوئی نشان، اگر تم سچے ہو۔” انہوں نے فرمایا: “کتاب سے مراد تورات اور انجیل ہے؛ اور ‘علم کے آثار’ سے ان کی مراد صرف انبیاء کے اوصیاء (عليهم السلام) کا علم ہے۔”
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ibn Mahboub, from Jameel Bin Salih, from Abu Ubeyda who said, ‘I asked Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup> about the Words of the Exalted <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:46#h4"><a href="/books/quran:46#h4">[46:4]</a></a> Bring me a Book before this or traces of the Knowledge, if you are truthful</span>. He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘It Means by the Book, the Torah, and the Evangel, ‘traces of knowledge’, so rather it means by that, knowledge of the successors<sup>as</sup> of the Prophets<sup>as</sup>’.
