تَغَدَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ عَلَى الْخِوَانِ بَقْلٌ وَ مَعَنَا شَيْخٌ فَجَعَلَ يَتَنَكَّبُ الْهِنْدَبَاءَ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَمَّا أَنْتُمْ فَتَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الْهِنْدَبَاءَ بَارِدَةٌ وَ لَيْسَتْ كَذَلِكَ وَ لَكِنَّهَا مُعْتَدِلَةٌ وَ فَضْلُهَا عَلَى الْبُقُولِ كَفَضْلِنَا عَلَى النَّاسِ .
Translation
A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Abu Abdullah, from Abu Suleyman Al Haza’a, from Muhammad Bin Al Fayz who said, ‘I had lunch with Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> and upon the food-spread were vegetables, and with us was an old man who avoided the endive. So Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘But you all are thinking that the endive is cold, and it is not like that, but it is moderate, and its merits upon the vegetables is like our<sup>asws</sup> merits upon the people’.
