كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ عِنْدَنَا شَرَابٌ يُسَمَّى الْمَيْبَةَ نَعْمِدُ إِلَى السَّفَرْجَلِ فَنَقْشِرُهُ وَ نُلْقِيهِ فِي الْمَاءِ ثُمَّ نَعْمِدُ إِلَى الْعَصِيرِ فَنَطْبُخُهُ عَلَى الثُّلُثِ ثُمَّ نَدُقُّ ذَلِكَ السَّفَرْجَلَ وَ نَأْخُذُ مَاءَهُ ثُمَّ نَعْمِدُ إِلَى مَاءِ هَذَا الْمُثَلَّثِ وَ هَذَا السَّفَرْجَلِ فَنُلْقِي فِيهِ الْمِسْكَ وَ الْأَفَاوِيَ وَ الزَّعْفَرَانَ وَ الْعَسَلَ فَنَطْبُخُهُ حَتَّى يَذْهَبَ ثُلُثَاهُ وَ يَبْقَى ثُلُثُهُ أَ يَحِلُّ شُرْبُهُ فَكَتَبَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ مَا لَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ .
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Ahmad, from Ibrahim Bin Mahziyar, from Khaleylan Bin Hisham who said, ‘I wrote to Abu Al-Hassan<sup>asws</sup>, ‘May I be sacrificed for you<sup>asws</sup>! With us there is a drink called <span class="iTxt">Al-Mayba</span> made out of the quince. So it is peeled and placed in the water, then we take to the (grape) juice, so we cook it upon the third, then we pound that quince and we take its water. Then we take to the water of this third, and this quince, so we cast the musk in it, and the condiment, and the saffron, and the honey, so we cook it until two-thirds of it evaporates and there remains its third. Is it Permissible to drink it?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> wrote: ‘There is no problem with it for as long as it has not changed’.
