كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ مِهْزَمٌ فَقَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) ادْعُ لَنَا الْجَارِيَةَ تَجِئْنَا بِدُهْنٍ وَ كُحْلٍ فَدَعَوْتُ بِهَا فَجَاءَتْ بِقَارُورَةِ بَنَفْسَجٍ وَ كَانَ يَوْماً شَدِيدَ الْبَرْدِ فَصَبَّ مِهْزَمٌ فِي رَاحَتِهِ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ هَذَا بَنَفْسَجٌ وَ هَذَا الْبَرْدُ الشَّدِيدُ فَقَالَ وَ مَا بَالُهُ يَا مِهْزَمُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ مُتَطَبِّبِينَا بِالْكُوفَةِ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الْبَنَفْسَجَ بَارِدٌ فَقَالَ هُوَ بَارِدٌ فِي الصَّيْفِ لَيِّنٌ حَارٌّ فِي الشِّتَاءِ .
Translation
Ali Bin Hassan, from Abdul Rahman Bin Kaseer who said, ‘I was in the presence of Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>, so Mahzam came over to him<sup>asws</sup>. So Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> said to me: ‘Call the maid for us<sup>asws</sup> to bring us<sup>asws</sup> the (massaging) oil and kohl’. So I called her with it and she came over with a flask of violet (oil), and it was an intensely cold day. So Mihzam poured in his hand from it, then said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you<sup>asws</sup>! This is violet (oil), and this is extremely cold’. So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘And what is the matter with it, O Mihzam?’ So he said, ‘Our physicians at Al-Kufa are alleging that the violet (oil) is cold?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘It is cold in the summer, and is soft and hot in the winter’.
