سہل، ابراہیم بن محمد الہمذانی سے، انہوں نے کہا: میں نے ابو الحسن (عليه السلام) کو لکھا: علی بن مہزیار نے مجھے آپ کے والد (عليه السلام) کا وہ خط پڑھ کر سنایا جس میں انہوں نے جاگیروں کے مالکان پر جو واجب کیا تھا: خرچ کے بعد چھٹے حصے کا نصف، اور یہ کہ جس کی جاگیر اپنے خرچ کو پورا نہ کرے اس پر نہ چھٹے حصے کا نصف ہے اور نہ اس کے علاوہ کچھ۔ پھر ہمارے لوگوں نے اس بارے میں اختلاف کیا، اور انہوں نے کہا: 'جاگیروں پر خرچ کے بعد خمس واجب ہے—یعنی جاگیر کے خرچ اور اس کے خراج کے بعد—نہ کہ آدمی اور اس کے اہل و عیال کے خرچ کے بعد۔' تو انہوں نے (عليه السلام) لکھا: 'اس کے خرچ اور اس کے اہل و عیال کے خرچ کے بعد، اور حاکم کے خراج کے بعد۔'

Translation

Sahl, from Ibrahim Bin Muhammad Al Hamdany who said, ‘I wrote to Abu Al-Hassan^asws, ‘Ali Bin Mahziyar read out a letter of your^asws father^asws to me regarding what is Obligated upon the owner of the estate as being half of the sixth, and that there isn’t upon the one who oversees his estate with his expenses, neither half of the sixth nor other than that. So the ones before us differed in regards to that and they said, ‘The Khums is Obligated upon the estate after the expenditure, the expenses of the estate and its yield, not the expenses of the man and his dependants’. So he^asws wrote to him, ‘After its expenditure and his expenditure and of his dependants, and after the taxation of the ruling authorities’.
