میں نے ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام سے عرض کیا: 'میرا کیا حال ہے کہ میں آپ سے کوئی مسئلہ پوچھتا ہوں تو آپ مجھے ایک جواب دیتے ہیں، پھر میرے علاوہ کوئی اور آپ کے پاس آتا ہے تو آپ اسے اسی مسئلے میں دوسرا جواب دیتے ہیں؟' تو آپ نے فرمایا: 'ہم لوگوں کو زیادتی اور نقصان (ان کی استعداد) کے مطابق جواب دیتے ہیں۔' اس نے کہا: میں نے کہا: 'تو مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ کے اصحاب کے بارے میں بتائیں — کیا انہوں نے محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ سے سچ بیان کیا یا جھوٹ؟' آپ نے فرمایا: 'بلکہ انہوں نے سچ کہا۔' میں نے کہا: 'تو ان میں اختلاف کیوں ہوا؟' آپ نے فرمایا: 'کیا تم نہیں جانتے کہ آدمی رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ کے پاس آتا تھا، مسئلہ پوچھتا تھا، آپ جواب دیتے تھے، پھر بعد میں ایسا جواب دیتے جو پہلے جواب کو منسوخ کر دیتا تھا؟ اس طرح احادیث نے ایک دوسرے کو منسوخ کر دیا۔'

Translation

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Najran, from Aasim Bin Humeyd, from Mansour Bin Hazim who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah^asws, ‘What is the matter that I ask you^asws the question, so you^asws answer me with regards to it with the answer, then there comes to you other than me, so you^asws answer him with another answer, regarding his question?’ So he^asws said: ‘We^asws answer the people sometimes more and sometimes less (as per their merit/status)’. He (the narrator) said, ‘I said, ‘So inform me about the companions of Rasool-Allah^saww. Were they truthful upon Muhammad^saww or they lied (while reporting)?’ He^asws said: ‘But they (generally) were truthful’. I said, ‘So what is the matter with them that they are differing?’ So he^asws said: ‘Do you not know that the man would come to Rasool-Allah^saww, and he would ask him^saww the question, so he^saww would answer him with regards to it with an answer. Then he^saww would answer him after that what Abrogated that answer. So the Ahadeeth got Abrogated by the other (Ahadeeth)’.
