ہمارے کئی اصحاب نے احمد بن محمد بن خالد سے، انہوں نے ہمارے بعض اصحاب سے، انہوں نے علی بن عقبہ بن قیس بن سمعان بن ابی ربیحہ سے — جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ کے آزاد کردہ غلام تھے — روایت کی کہ انہوں نے کہا: امیر المؤمنین علیہ السلام سے پوچھا گیا: 'آپ نے اپنے رب کو کس چیز سے پہچانا؟' آپ نے فرمایا: 'اس چیز سے جس سے اس نے خود اپنی ذات کو مجھ سے روشناس کرایا۔' کہا گیا: 'اور اس نے اپنی ذات کو آپ سے کیسے روشناس کرایا؟' آپ نے فرمایا: 'کوئی صورت اس کے مشابہ نہیں، نہ اسے حواس سے محسوس کیا جا سکتا ہے، نہ اسے لوگوں سے قیاس کیا جا سکتا ہے۔' وہ اپنی دوری میں قریب ہے اور اپنی قربت میں دور۔ وہ ہر چیز سے اوپر ہے، اور یہ نہیں کہا جا سکتا کہ کوئی چیز اس سے اوپر ہو۔ وہ ہر چیز کے آگے ہے، اور یہ نہیں کہا جا سکتا کہ اس کے لیے کوئی آگے ہو۔ وہ اشیاء کے اندر ہے، لیکن کسی ایسی چیز کی طرح نہیں جو کسی چیز میں داخل ہو؛ اور وہ اشیاء سے باہر ہے، لیکن کسی ایسی چیز کی طرح نہیں جو کسی چیز سے خارج ہو۔ پاک ہے وہ ذات جو ایسی ہے، اور کوئی دوسرا ایسا نہیں۔ اور ہر چیز کے لیے ابتدا کرنے والا ہے۔

Translation

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from one of our companions, from Ali Bin Uqba Bin Qays Bin Abu Rubayha, A slave of Rasool-Allah^saww, said, ‘Amir Al-<span class="iTxt">Momin</span>een^asws was asked, ‘By what you^asws recognise your^asws Lord^azwj?’ He^asws said: ‘By what He^azwj Introduced Himself^azwj to me^asws as’. It was said, ‘And how did He^azwj Introduce Himself^azwj to you^asws?’ He^asws said: ‘Neither does an image resemble Him^azwj nor can He^azwj be sensed by the sensory perceptions, nor can He^azwj be compared with the people. He^azwj is Near in His^azwj Remoteness and Remote in His^azwj Nearness, above everything. Nothing can be said to be above Him^azwj. He^azwj is in front of everything and it cannot be said for Him^azwj there is a front. He^azwj is inside everything not like a thing entering into a thing, and He^azwj is outside from the things, not like the thing being outside from the thing. Glorious is the One^azwj Who is like this, and nothing else is like this. And for everything, there is an Initiator’.
