میں نے اس شخص (علیہ السلام) کو خط لکھا اور ان سے پوچھا کہ آپ کے ماننے والوں میں علم کے بارے میں اختلاف ہو گیا ہے۔ ان میں سے بعض نے کہا کہ 'اللہ ہمیشہ سے جاننے والا تھا، چیزوں کے پیدا کرنے سے پہلے بھی'؛ اور بعض نے کہا کہ 'ہم یہ نہیں کہتے کہ اللہ ہمیشہ سے جاننے والا تھا، کیونکہ جاننے کا معنی فعل کرنا ہے۔ پس اگر ہم نے علم کو ثابت کیا تو ہم نے ازل میں اس کے ساتھ کسی چیز کو ثابت کر دیا'۔ پس اگر آپ مناسب سمجھیں — اللہ مجھے آپ پر قربان کرے — تو مجھے اس بارے میں وہ بات سکھائیں جس پر میں ٹھہر سکوں اور اس سے آگے نہ بڑھوں۔ پس انہوں نے (علیہ السلام) اپنے ہاتھ سے لکھا: 'اللہ ہمیشہ سے جاننے والا ہے۔ بابرکت اور بلند ہے اس کا ذکر۔'

Translation

Ali Bin Muhammad, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ja’far Bin Muhammad Bin Hamza who said, ‘I wrote to the man^asws asking him^asws, ‘The ones in your^asws Wilayah are differing regarding the Knowledge. So, some of them say, ‘Allah^azwj did not cease to be a Knower before He^azwj Doing (Creating) the things’; and some of them say, ‘We are not saying that He^azwj did not cease to be a Knower because the meaning of the knowledge is by a deed. So if we prove the Knowledge (as being eternal), so we have proved in the eternality, the things along with it’. So what is your^asws view, may I be sacrificed for you^asws, if you^asws could teach me from that what I could pause upon and not exceed it’. So he^asws wrote in his^asws own handwriting: ‘Allah^azwj did not cease to be a Knower. Blessed and High is His^azwj Mention’.
