مسجدِ مدینہ میں ایک شخص قدر کے بارے میں گفتگو کر رہا تھا اور لوگ اس کے گرد جمع ہو رہے تھے۔ میں نے کہا: اے شخص! میں آپ سے ایک سوال کرنا چاہتا ہوں۔ اس نے کہا: پوچھو۔ میں نے کہا: کیا اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ کی بادشاہت میں کوئی ایسی چیز ہو سکتی ہے جو وہ نہ چاہتا ہو؟ اس نے بہت دیر تک سر جھکائے رکھا، پھر اپنا سر میری طرف اٹھایا اور مجھ سے کہا: اے شخص! اگر میں کہوں کہ اللہ کی بادشاہت میں وہ بھی ہوتا ہے جو وہ نہیں چاہتا، تو وہ مغلوب ہے؛ اور اگر میں کہوں کہ اس کی بادشاہت میں صرف وہی ہوتا ہے جو وہ چاہتا ہے، تو میں نے آپ کو گناہوں کا اقراری بنا دیا۔ راوی نے کہا: تو میں نے ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے عرض کیا: میں نے اس قدری سے سوال کیا اور اس کا جواب ایسا ایسا تھا۔ تو آپ نے فرمایا: اس نے اپنے آپ کو بچایا۔ لیکن اگر وہ اس کے علاوہ کچھ کہتا تو ہلاک ہو جاتا۔

Translation

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Abu Abdullah, from Usman Bin Isa, from Ismail Bin Jabir who said, ‘There was a man in a Masjid of Al-Medina who was speaking regarding the Pre-determination, and the people were gathering. So I said, ‘O you! I (would like to) question you’. He said, ‘Ask’. I said, ‘Can there happen to be in the Kingdom of Allah^azwj Blessed and High what He^azwj does not want?’ So he lowered his head for a long while, then raised his head towards me, so he said to me, ‘O you! If I were to say that there does happen to be in His^azwj Kingdom what He^azwj does not want, so He^azwj would be defeated, and if I were to say that there cannot happen to be in His^azwj Kingdom except what He^azwj wants, I would be acknowledging to you with the disobedience (freedom to commit sins)’. He (the narrator) said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah^asws, ‘I asked the Qadiriyya, so it was from his answers, such and such’. So he^asws said: ‘He watched out for himself. But, had he said other than what he said, he would be destroyed’.
