سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) عَلَى الْأَئِمَّةِ مِنَ الْفَرْضِ مَا لَيْسَ عَلَى شِيعَتِهِمْ وَ عَلَى شِيعَتِنَا مَا لَيْسَ عَلَيْنَا أَمَرَهُمُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَنْ يَسْأَلُونَا قَالَ فَسْئَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لا تَعْلَمُونَ فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَسْأَلُونَا وَ لَيْسَ عَلَيْنَا الْجَوَابُ إِنْ شِئْنَا أَجَبْنَا وَ إِنْ شِئْنَا أَمْسَكْنَا .

میں نے ان سے سنا کہ فرماتے تھے: علی بن حسین علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: ائمہ پر کچھ فرائض ہیں جو ان کے شیعوں پر نہیں، اور ہمارے شیعوں پر کچھ فرائض ہیں جو ہم پر نہیں۔ اللہ عزوجل نے انہیں حکم دیا کہ ہم سے پوچھیں — فرمایا: «پس اگر تم نہیں جانتے تو اہل ذکر سے پوچھو»۔ تو اس نے انہیں حکم دیا کہ ہم سے پوچھیں، اور ہم پر جواب دینا ضروری نہیں — اگر چاہیں جواب دیں اگر چاہیں خاموش رہیں۔
Translation
A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Washa, (It has been narrated) from Abu Al-Hassan Al-Reza<sup>asws</sup>, said, ‘I heard him<sup>asws</sup> saying: ‘Ali<sup>asws</sup> Bin Al-Husayn<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Certain obligations for ‘Aimmah’<sup>asws</sup> are not obligatory upon their<sup>asws</sup> followers and certain obligations of our<sup>asws</sup> followers are not obligatory for us. It is from the Imposition upon the Imams<sup>asws</sup> what isn’t upon their<sup>asws</sup> Shias, and upon our<sup>asws</sup> Shia what isn’t upon us<sup>asws</sup>. Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic Commanded them that they should be asking us<sup>asws</sup>, so He<sup>azwj</sup> Said <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:16#h43"><a href="/books/quran:16#h43">[16:43]</a></a> so ask the People of the Reminder if you do not know</span>. So He<sup>azwj</sup> Commanded them that they should ask us<sup>asws</sup>, and the answering isn’t upon us<sup>asws</sup>. If we<sup>asws</sup> so desire to, we<sup>asws</sup> will answer, and if we<sup>asws</sup> so desire, we<sup>asws</sup> will not answer’.
