كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ يَقُولُ إِنَّا أَنْزَلْناهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ وَ ما أَدْراكَ ما لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لَا أَدْرِي قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ لَيْسَ فِيهَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) وَ هَلْ تَدْرِي لِمَ هِيَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ قَالَ لَا قَالَ لِأَنَّهَا تَنَزَّلُ فِيهَا الْمَلائِكَةُ وَ الرُّوحُ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ مِنْ كُلِّ أَمْرٍ وَ إِذَا أَذِنَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِشَيْءٍ فَقَدْ رَضِيَهُ سَلامٌ هِيَ حَتَّى مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ يَقُولُ تُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ مَلَائِكَتِي وَ رُوحِي بِسَلَامِي مِنْ أَوَّلِ مَا يَهْبِطُونَ إِلَى مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي بَعْضِ كِتَابِهِ وَ اتَّقُوا فِتْنَةً لا تُصِيبَنَّ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مِنْكُمْ خَاصَّةً فِي إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ وَ قَالَ فِي بَعْضِ كِتَابِهِ وَ ما مُحَمَّدٌ إِلَّا رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ أَ فَإِنْ ماتَ أَوْ قُتِلَ انْقَلَبْتُمْ عَلى أَعْقابِكُمْ وَ مَنْ يَنْقَلِبْ عَلى عَقِبَيْهِ فَلَنْ يَضُرَّ اللَّهَ شَيْئاً وَ سَيَجْزِي اللَّهُ الشَّاكِرِينَ يَقُولُ فِي الْآيَةِ الْأُولَى إِنَّ مُحَمَّداً حِينَ يَمُوتُ يَقُولُ أَهْلُ الْخِلَافِ لِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مَضَتْ لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) فَهَذِهِ فِتْنَةٌ أَصَابَتْهُمْ خَاصَّةً وَ بِهَا ارْتَدُّوا عَلَى أَعْقَابِهِمْ لِأَنَّهُمْ إِنْ قَالُوا لَمْ تَذْهَبْ فَلَا بُدَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِيهَا أَمْرٌ وَ إِذَا أَقَرُّوا بِالْأَمْرِ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مِنْ صَاحِبٍ بُدٌّ .

اور اسی سند کے ساتھ ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام سے روایت ہے کہ آپ نے فرمایا: علی بن الحسین صلوات اللہ علیہ کہا کرتے تھے: 'بے شک ہم نے اسے شبِ قدر میں نازل کیا' 'اور آپ کو کیا معلوم کہ شبِ قدر کیا ہے؟' — اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ نے فرمایا: 'میں نہیں جانتا۔' اللہ عزّ و جلّ نے فرمایا: 'شبِ قدر ہزار مہینوں سے بہتر ہے' جن میں شبِ قدر نہیں۔ آپ نے رسول اللہ سے پوچھا: 'کیا آپ جانتے ہیں کہ وہ ہزار مہینوں سے بہتر کیوں ہے؟' فرمایا: 'نہیں۔' فرمایا: 'کیونکہ اس میں فرشتے اور روح اپنے رب کے اذن سے ہر امر کے ساتھ اترتے ہیں'، اللہ کسی چیز کی اجازت دے تو اسے پسند کر چکا ہوتا ہے۔ 'یہ سلامتی ہے طلوعِ فجر تک' — آپ فرماتے ہیں: 'میرے فرشتے اور میری روح میری سلامتی کے ساتھ آپ پر، اے محمد، سلام کرتے ہیں، اترنے کے شروع سے طلوعِ فجر تک۔' پھر آپ نے اپنی کتاب کے ایک حصے میں فرمایا: 'اور اس فتنے سے ڈرو جو تم میں سے صرف ظالموں پر خاص نہیں رہے گا' (8:25) — 'بے شک ہم نے اسے شبِ قدر میں نازل کیا' کے بارے میں۔ اور اپنی کتاب کے دوسرے حصے میں فرمایا: 'محمد تو صرف ایک رسول ہیں، ان سے پہلے بھی رسول گزرے ہیں؛ تو کیا اگر وہ وفات پائیں یا قتل کیے جائیں تو تم الٹے پاؤں پھر جاؤ گے؟ اور جو بھی الٹے پاؤں پھرے، وہ اللہ کا کچھ نہیں بگاڑے گا، اور اللہ شکرگزاروں کو جزا دے گا' (3:144)۔ آپ پہلی آیت کے بارے میں فرماتے ہیں: جب محمد وفات پائیں گے تو اللہ کے حکم کی مخالفت کرنے والے کہیں گے: 'شبِ قدر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ کے ساتھ گزر گئی۔' یہ وہ فتنہ ہے جو خصوصاً انہیں لگا اور اس کی وجہ سے وہ اپنی ایڑیوں پر پلٹ گئے — کیونکہ اگر وہ کہیں کہ 'نہیں گئی' تو لازماً اللہ عزّ و جلّ کا اس میں کوئی حکم ہونا چاہیے، اور جب وہ حکم کا اقرار کریں تو اس کے لیے کوئی صاحب ہونا ضروری ہے۔
Translation
And by this chain, (It has been narrated) ‘from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> having said: ‘Ali<sup>asws</sup> Bin Al-Husayn<sup>asws</sup> was saying <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:97#h1"><a href="/books/quran:97#h1">[97:1]</a></a> We have indeed revealed this in the Night of Pre-determination</span>. Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic Spoke the Truth. Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Revealed the Quran during the Night of the Pre-determination (<span class="iTxt">Laylat Al-Qadr</span>) <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:97#h3"><a href="/books/quran:97#h3">[97:3]</a></a> The Night of Pre-determination is better than a thousand months</span> wherein there is no Night of Pre-determination. He<sup>azwj</sup> asked Rasool-Allah<sup>saww</sup>: “Do you<sup>saww</sup> know why it is better than a thousand months?” He<sup>saww</sup> said: ‘Because <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:97#h4"><a href="/books/quran:97#h4">[97:4]</a></a> Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's Permission from every affair</span>; and when Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic Permits for something, so it has Pleased Him<sup>azwj</sup> <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:97#h5"><a href="/books/quran:97#h5">[97:5]</a></a> Peace! Such it is till the break of the morning</span>. He<sup>azwj</sup> is Saying: “They are submitting upon you<sup>saww</sup>, O Muhammad<sup>saww</sup>, My<sup>azwj</sup> Angels and My<sup>azwj</sup> Spirit with My<sup>azwj</sup> Greetings, from the beginning of what they are descending up to the emergence of the dawn’. Then He<sup>azwj</sup> Said in (another) part of His<sup>azwj</sup> Book <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:8#h25"><a href="/books/quran:8#h25">[8:25]</a></a> And fear a strife which may not smite (only) those of you in particular who are unjust</span>, in particular regarding <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:97#h1"><a href="/books/quran:97#h1">[97:1]</a></a> We have indeed revealed this in the Night of Predestination</span>. And He<sup>azwj</sup> Said in (another) part of His<sup>azwj</sup> Book <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:3#h144"><a href="/books/quran:3#h144">[3:144]</a></a> And what is Muhammad except for a Rasool; the Rasools have already passed away before him; if then he dies or is killed will you turn back upon your heels? And whoever turns back upon his heels, he will by no means do harm to Allah in the least and Allah will Reward the grateful</span>. He<sup>azwj</sup> is Saying in the first Verse that Muhammad<sup>saww</sup>, when he<sup>saww</sup> passes away, the people of the opposition to the Command of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic would be saying, ‘The Night of Pre-determination (<span class="iTxt">Laylat Al-Qadr</span>) expired along with Rasool-Allah<sup>saww</sup>’. So this is a strife hitting them in particular, and by it they are turning back upon their heels because they, if they were to say, ‘It (<span class="iTxt">Laylat Al-Qadr</span>) did not go away, so it would be inevitable that there would happen to be for Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic a Command during it, and when they acknowledge with the Command, there cannot happen to be an escape from there being a Master<sup>asws</sup> for it’.
