سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عِلْمَيْنِ عِلْمٌ مَبْذُولٌ وَ عِلْمٌ مَكْفُوفٌ فَأَمَّا الْمَبْذُولُ فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ تَعْلَمُهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَ الرُّسُلُ إِلَّا نَحْنُ نَعْلَمُهُ وَ أَمَّا الْمَكْفُوفُ فَهُوَ الَّذِي عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ إِذَا خَرَجَ نَفَذَ .

علی بن ابراہیم، صالح بن السندی سے، جعفر بن بشیر سے، ضریس سے، انہوں نے کہا: میں نے ابو جعفر (عليه السلام) کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا: “بے شک اللہ عز و جل کے لیے دو علم ہیں: ایک ظاہر کیا ہوا علم اور ایک روکا ہوا علم۔ رہا ظاہر کیا ہوا علم، تو فرشتوں اور رسولوں کے علم میں سے کوئی چیز ایسی نہیں مگر یہ کہ ہم اسے جانتے ہیں۔ اور رہا روکا ہوا علم، تو وہ وہی ہے جو اللہ عز و جل کے پاس امّ الکتاب میں ہے؛ جب وہ ظاہر ہوتا ہے تو نافذ ہو جاتا ہے۔”
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Salih Bin Al Sindy, from Ja’far Bin Bashir, from Zureys who said, ‘I heard Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup> saying: ‘For Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic there are (two types of) Knowledges – A Knowledge Granted and a Knowledge Withheld. So as for the Withheld, so there isn’t anything which He<sup>azwj</sup> Taught to the Angels and the Rasools<sup>as</sup> except that we<sup>asws</sup> know it; and as for the Withheld, so it that which is in the Presence of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic in the Mother of the Book. Whenever it comes out, it is Granted’.
