كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَلُومُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ وَ يُعَاتِبُهُ وَ يَعِظُهُ وَ يَقُولُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِثْلَ أَخِيكَ فَوَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُ النُّورَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ لِمَ أَ لَيْسَ أَبِي وَ أَبُوهُ وَاحِداً وَ أُمِّي وَ أُمُّهُ وَاحِدَةً فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ مِنْ نَفْسِي وَ أَنْتَ ابْنِي .

محمد بن یحیی، محمد بن الحسین سے، جعفر بن بشیر سے، فضیل سے، طاہر سے، ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام سے، جنہوں نے فرمایا: ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام عادتاً عبد اللہ کو ملامت کرتے، اسے سرزنش کرتے، اسے نصیحت فرماتے اور کہتے: “تمہیں اپنے بھائی جیسا بننے سے کس چیز نے روکا؟ اللہ کی قسم، میں ضرور اس کے چہرے میں نور پہچانتا ہوں۔” تو عبد اللہ نے کہا: “کیوں؟ کیا میرے باپ اور اس کے باپ ایک نہیں، اور میری ماں اور اس کی ماں ایک نہیں؟” تو ابو عبد اللہ علیہ السلام نے اس سے فرمایا: “بے شک وہ میرے اپنے نفس سے ہے، جبکہ تم میرے بیٹے ہو۔”
Translation
Muhammad BinYahya, from Muhammad Bin Al-Husayn, from Ja’far Bin Bashir, from Fuzayl, from Tahir, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>, said, ‘It was so that Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> was blaming Abdullah, and admonishing him and exhorting him, and he<sup>asws</sup> was saying: ‘What is preventing you from becoming like your brother (Musa<sup>asws</sup>), for, by Allah<sup>azwj</sup>, I<sup>asws</sup> recognise the Light in his<sup>asws</sup> face’. So Abdullah said, ‘Isn’t my father<sup>asws</sup> and his<sup>asws</sup> father<sup>asws</sup> one, and my mother and his<sup>asws</sup> mother one?’ So Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> said to him: ‘He<sup>asws</sup> is from my<sup>asws</sup> self, and you are my<sup>asws</sup> son’.
