Origin
No founding year is given below, because the sources read do not agree on one and a date has not been chosen for them. No founding event: this is a classificatory category, not a historical organisation. The texts it names (Laozi/Daodejing, Zhuangzi) are conventionally dated to the Warring States period, but the category 'philosophical Daoism' as a branch separate from 'religious Daoism' is a modern sinological construct.
