Founder named in the sources: Wallace (Warith Deen) Mohammed. No founding year is given below, because the sources read do not agree on one and a date has not been chosen for them. No founding year. 1975 is the date of the leadership transition on Elijah Muhammad's death and of the doctrinal reform that followed, not the founding of a body under this name. WRSP records the sequence of renamings: 'first the Bilalian Community, then the World Community of Al-Islam in the West, subsequently the American Muslim Mission (1980s), and finally the Muslim Mission (1990s)'. 'American Society of Muslims' is not attested in any source cited on this entry and is retained only as an unsourced alias.
